BOEZAART BAUERMEISTER Cape Town Fashion Week 2004
This was Boezaart Bauermeister’s first show at CTFW. It was entirely based on the contrast of black and white, naked and covered. Some of these images are of an collection of cable tie jewellery, which I started to develop during my final year of study. It is made entirely of black and white cable ties ‘knotted’ together. It was shown here at the 2004 Boezaart Bauermeister Cape Town Fashion Week Show. It forms interesting shadows motifs on the skin – like a piece of fabric, a tattoo or even chain mail. It has inspired other areas of design such as filigree work in precious metals. There is an interesting interplay between the hard plastic of the cable ties which also comes across at a lace-like fabric. There is also an interplay between the futuristic element and a historic feel of these plastic body coverings.
